Western Week is underway with an amazing event lineup

During Western Week, Old Town Scottsdale transforms into an authentic Old West experience, with fun for the entire family. Connect with Old Town’s roots, up-close and in person, through Western and Native American festivals, an art walk, the Hashknife Pony Express, Parada del Sol Parade and the Arizona Indian Festival. Come say howdy!

Begin the celebration with Wyatt Earp: A Life on the Frontier, a 2-hour bio-drama featuring grandnephew Wyatt Earp in a portrayal of his famous relative, and Riders of the Purple Sage: The Making of a Western Opera, a new film about the artistry behind Arizona Opera’s electrifying opera based on the Zane Grey novel of the same name. Both take place Wednesday, Feb 5.

Don’t miss the Western Week Gold Palette ArtWalk, where special performers will roam Main Street and Marshall Way Thursday, Feb 6., adding to the ambiance of an Old West ArtWalk.

The Museum of the West will offer free admission Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 – a great opportunity to check out the expansive Maynard Dixon’s American West Exhibition.

Enjoy the 62nd annual Hashknife Pony Express Arrival & Food Truck Round-up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. This free event features the “Hashknife Boot Camp” for kids, live entertainment, family-friendly games, storytelling, crafts, face painting, onsite food trucks and more. At noon, the Hashknife Pony Express will arrive in Scottsdale and deliver more than 20,000 pieces of mail to the U.S. Postal Service at the front steps of the museum, followed by the opportunity to meet and mingle with the riders.

Friday and Saturday, the Old Town Scottsdale Parada del Sol Rodeo Museum will host a Rodeo Kickoff Party to mark the museum’s expansion into the Livery Stable and sell tickets to the Parada del Sol Rodeo taking place March 5-8.

Saturday night, the Arizona Native Edible Experience takes place at the Museum of the West in a cocktail-style setting with Native art and artists, chef tasting stations offering traditional and fusion foods, cocktails and a silent auction.

Finally, Western Week wouldn’t be complete without the mesmerizing, Arizona Indian Festival taking place Feb. 8-9, and the Parada del Sol Parade on Feb. 8, led by Grand Marshal Peter MacDonald Sr., one of the last remaining Navajo code talkers. Immediately following the parade, Historic Old Town becomes the setting for the Western-style Trail’s End Festival.
