Friends of the Scenic Drive: Thank you for your cleanup help.

Friends of the Scenic Adopt a Road Cleanup Sign

Friends of the Scenic Drive Helps Maintain and Enhance Scottsdale’s Scenic Drive.

April 24, 2012

Dear Friends of the Scenic Drive Volunteer,

April 23 Cleanup Really Celebrated Earth Day!

What a difference a year makes. The City of Scottsdale’s Adopt-A-Road program cancelled its April 2021 city-wide cleanup because of the COVID-19.  This year a city-wide cleanup was held celebrating Earth Day on April 23, 2022.

Thank you for helping Friends of the Scenic Drive make 13 miles of roadside  (6 1/2 miles on each side of North Scottsdale Road) look naturally beautiful. To really celebrate Earth Day, we needed you and you really came through.  Friends had 18 volunteers register at its two sign-in locations.  This bodes well for the future of Scottsdale’s Scenic Drive  and the local natural environment. Hopefully, this year as residents and visitors enjoy a remarkable display of Palo Verde trees in bloom, COVID is in the rear view mirror.

Special thanks to Gina Kulp for managing the “South” sign in location. And best wishes to Bill Scott and his family. Bill, who usually manages the “North” was unable to participate for family health reasons.

Schedule Will Resume in Fall

Friends of the Scenic Drive, an organization that was part of the founding of Scottsdale’s Adopt-A-Road program will continue to supports the city’s cleanup initiatives. The next city-wide cleanup will be held in the fall as part of the 2022-23 schedule.

Our cleanups, which began in 1996, support the Scottsdale Road Scenic Drive and are part of Scottsdale’s Keep Scottsdale Beautiful initiative. With your help, we can all make a difference when roadside cleanups get underway in the fall.

  1. Although I live above 46 up north in the U.P. I have a special fondness for the southwest, especially the area around Apache Junction.

It’s especially enjoyable to keep up with the PEAK during work breaks. Keep up the good work!
