Herb helped the Scenic Drive. You can too.

Herb helped the Scenic Drive. You can too.

By Les Conklin

In January 1995, Herb Drinkwater sent this note to me. It was important because it meant that he and the City of Scottsdale would help us keep the Scenic Drive scenic.

In a vibrant growing community where development threatens the natural environment and quality of life, it takes steadfastness, work, TLC, and financial support to fend off the forces of time and change. Mayor Herb Drinkwater understood the challenge and helped to preserve and enhance the Drive, a unique landmark established in 1963.

Jake Kulp, a member of Friends of the Scenic Drive and resident of north Scottsdale, is organizing a Friends exhibit maintenance project to re-paint the rocks that surround each roadside exhibit plant and clear the numerous exhibits of weeds and overgrowth. Friends also plans to restore the original appearance of the Scenic Drive’s entry and exhibit monuments by giving them a fresh coat of paint.
