Local Kindergarten Students Skype with Sister School in China

ccusd_skypekids500Courtesay of Cave Creek Unified School District

One Skype camera, two countries, over one hundred attendees! Horseshoe Trails Elementary School (HTES), Cave Creek, AZ and Chengdu Jiaxiang Foreign Languages School (Sichuan Province, China) launched their new sister school relationship on December 8 (it was December 9th in China) through a Skype Night. Students from China performed martial arts, a tea ceremony, songs and dances while Mrs. Harrison and Mr. Chen’s kinder students performed the Pledge of Allegiance, songs and chants.

The grand finale was attempting to sing a song from their favorite movie together, Frozen. Both Chinese and American students had their parents sitting in the back, witnessing this new age of global communication. One student from China went to the microphone and said, “I love you”– our students answered with “pai pai shu” or “applause!” The Chinese Dual Language Immersion Program at Horseshoe Trails is currently accepting applications for a limited number of kinder and 1st grade seats for the 2015-16 school year.

For more information contact HTES principal, Janiene Marlow 480-272-8500 or jmarlow@ccusd93.org.
