City of Scottsdale Facilities, Events and Programs, March 16, 2020

March 16, 2020

Given recent guidance about events and gatherings from the CDC, the City of Scottsdale has cancelled or postponed most programs and events. Some facilities remain open on a limited basis. The full status of city services, programs, events and meetings are provided below – thank you.

PUBLIC SERVICES

All City of Scottsdale public services such as solid waste collection, water, police and fire remain fully operational. Staff in these areas are taking steps recommended by public health experts to keep things clean and prevent the spread of the virus.

If you need to do business with the city, chances are you can do it online – search at ScottsaleAZ.gov or find a complete listing of services here.

Scottsdale’s call center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each business day – call 480-312-3111 for assistance.

Scottsdale’s Drinking Water

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends that Americans continue to use and drink tap water as usual. Scottsdale Water, like all municipal water suppliers, uses chlorine disinfection, which is extremely effective in removing and killing pathogens and viruses, including COVID-19.

Additional information about your drinking water, including Scottsdale’s annual Water Quality Reports, are available on our Drinking Water web page.

PUBLIC FACILITIES

Scottsdale Public Libraries (except Palomino) are open, however, programs and events are cancelled or postponed per public health guidance.

Palomino Library is closed and will reopen when Scottsdale Unified School District resumes classes.

The Libraries will not accept book donations until further notice.

Scottsdale aquatic and fitness centers (including Club SAR) are closed.

The Granite Reef and Via Linda Senior Centers will be open limited hours to provide essential services (including nutrition) for our customers who need it. The centers will be open:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Senior Center Fitness centers are closed

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is open, but the train and carousel are not operating, and the model railroad building and Hartley’s Café are closed.

All closures will be reevaluated in April.

The Scottsdale City Court has implemented special precautions and procedures – if you have been called to jury duty or have a matter going before Scottsdale City Court, check the court webpage for details.

Scottsdale’s One Stop Shop and Planning and Development Services department is open but implementing temporary changes to minimize potential exposure for staff and customers.

Most Planning and Development services can be requested and completed online.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

Per public health guidance, most city events and programs are cancelled until further notice.

This includes recreation programs and classes that are currently underway and were scheduled to end by April 6. Pro-rated refunds for remaining classes will be given to participants.

Scottsdale will still allow registration for upcoming recreation spring programs taking place after April 6, with refunds given in the event that these programs are cancelled.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

City Council

The 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, Scottsdale City Council meeting will be held as scheduled, although the 4 p.m. Board and Commission interview meeting is postponed until May. The City Council will determine plans for future meetings after that.

We strongly encourage the public to view the meeting remotely. All City Council meetings are televised on Cox cable Channel 11 and streamed online at ScottsdaleAZ.gov, search “live stream.”

Public comment regarding items on the March 17 agenda can be submitted electronically.

Boards and Commissions

Most City of Scottsdale Board and Commission meetings are cancelled at least through the end of March unless the public body has a specific business or statutory need to meet.

In cases where the board or commission needs to meet, remote participation is encouraged.

Public comment will be taken via email. Check ScottsdaleAZ.gov search “boards and commissions” for information and schedules specific to different city boards and commissions.
