Four Cactus Shadows High School Students receive Soroptimist International of Saguaro Foothills Young Women’s Service Awards

Four CSHS students received Soroptimist International of Saguaro Foothills Young Women’s Service Awards.

The Awards ceremony was held at Foothills Community Foundation’s Holland Community Center on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.

Soroptimist is an international service organization of women who volunteer in their communities.  Their mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.  Soroptimist International is active at all the major United Nationals centers around the world.  They hold General Consultative Status with the UN’s Economic and Social Council and work to ensure that the voices of women and girls around the world are included in international decision making and policy setting.

Emma Torrey – CSHS ’19:  Emma received the Award for her participation in the Superintendent’s Student Cadre.

Emily Ahern – CSHS ’20:  Emily received the Award for her volunteerism at Wild at Heart.

Lauren Anderson – CSHS ’21:  Lauren received the Award for her participation in the Veteran’s Heritage Project.

Jessica Brashear – CSHS’ 21:   Jessica received the Award for her participation in the Cave Creek Youth Education Foundation.

Soroptimist International of Saguaro Foothills is part of this global volunteer service organization.  There are over 95,000 Soroptimists in almost 120 countries and territories who contribute their time and financial support to community-based and international projects.  Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.  Soroptimist International of Saguaro Foothills focuses its efforts on projects to assist women and children in the local Carefree, Cave Creek, North Scottsdale, and the Northeast Valley and globally through programs administered by Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Dr. Debbi Burdick said, “We are extremely proud of these accomplished young women and their commitment to their community and service.  They are exemplars for other students in the spirit of community involvement.”
