Introduction by Les Conklin

At some point, artist Judy Conklin became interested in painting a cat. She began looking through pictures of the various pet cats we have had over the years and “wild” cats that she had photographed. A selection of those photographs is shown below.

Cat Facts

According to Wikipedia, cats originated from a common species in Asia about 25 million years ago. Cats have evolved to support a meat-eating (carnivorous) lifestyle.

Most cats have adapted to excel at ambush, stalking and short pursuit hunting. As you look at the photographs, you will notice these cat-like features are exhibited in various combinations.

  • Flexible bodies
  • Strong, flexible forelimbs and retractable claws for holding prey
  • Strong bite
  • Striped or spotted patterns for camouflage (Jabbers has a problem).
