irA drum circle is fun for young and old alike. Don’t miss the fun along the Adventure Trail.

Guests at Scottsdale Western Cookout Adventure on March 5th can have fun beating a drum for a good cause in community drum circle.

Wikipedia’s answer is longer and more sophisticated. “A drum circle is any group of people playing (usually) hand-drums and percussion in a circle. … They can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants.”

According to Wikipedia, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart said, “Typically, people gather to drum in ‘circles’ with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm …”

Guests at the 2016 Scottsdale Western Cookout Adventure will have the opportunity to share rhythms and FUN in a drum circle with a maximum of 40 participants of varying ages, and skill levels. Any fun-loving guest can join the circle of family members, friends, neighbors, snowbirds, and community leaders. You’ll likely find the author there too.

az_rhythm_connection_logoDrumming will be facilitated  by AZ Rhythm Connection. The facilitator directs the drumming enjoyment through teaching rhythms and verbal and non-verbal cues for starting, stopping, raising/lowering volume, accents, and when to play/not play. Lively, experienced facilitators from AZ Rhythm Connection lead drum circles that are featured for elementary and high school group tours at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. The company also offers adult sessions on a regular basis and conduct team building drum circles for corporations.

If you have never participated in a drum circle, GPPA’s March 5th event offers a convenient way to enjoy this activity that is growing in popularity. If you have participated in a drum circle, I expect that we’ll see you on March 5th. Drumming is just one of the fun things you’ll find at the event.
