In January 1983, Liz Stapleton-Ogden sat at her kitchen table and produced the first edition of A Peek at the Peak (The Peak). It was a four-page newsletter that was published on February 1, 1983.

Liz typed, “The purpose of this newsletter is to bring matters of local interest to the attention of residents, to share ideas and projects, to highlight personalities and student activities, to give credit for accomplishments, to comment on the desert environment, to let others know about services and sales; in short to provide a sounding board for many people here with interests in common.”

Now, the Greater Pinnacle Peak Association – Friends of the Scenic Drive has taken the community newsletter idea to a new level. This issue of The Peak magazine delivers a variety of electronic community newsletters, each bringing news and event information tailored to that newsletter’s readership. So, if you are interested in parks and recreation, economic development, library activities, zoning cases, or something else, it’s likely you’ll find a current newsletter dedicated to that topic.
