Informative Forum Held in Pinnacle Peak Area

The Greater Pinnacle Peak Association (GPPA) – Friends of the Scenic Drive thanks candidates, attendeed and volunteers for supporting last night’s Scottsdale City Council Candidates Forum. The forum, which was attended by about 35 residents was held in the Desert Park Building  of the Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park, 8950 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale 85255.

All five candidates, Bill Crawford, Councilwoman Kathy Littlefield, Councilwoman Linda Milhaven, Councilman David N. Smith, and  Solange Whitehead all contributed to an interesting, informative and serious discussion of local issues.

After making brief welcoming remarks, Les Conklin, GPPA’s President, introduced the forum’s moderator Cindy Lee, GPPA Vice President and time keeper, Ken Lew, a member of GPPA’s board. Each candidate made brief statements about their motivation and qualifications for seeking elected office. Then the candidates responded to questions posed by Lee and the audience.

Questions about Proposition 420 led to a brief sharp exchange between candidates, which was not surprising. But given the nastiness that has accompanied the campaign against Desert Edge, the serious and cordial postures assumed by candidates and the audience was a  welcome surprise.

Special thanks to GPPA board members George Constantinou, Evan Haft and volunteers Geoff Conklin and Judy Conklin for their assistance. GPPA was founded in 1977 and organized numerous candidate forums since the area was annexed into the City of Scottsdale.
