On behalf of the Greater Pinnacle Peak Association (GPPA) Board of Directors, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We have 159 reasons to thank you and the community.

Expecting a lengthy article describing the 159 reasons? That’s not what you’re going to encounter.

59 Reasons

For the 59 years of its existence, volunteers, local and state governments have supported the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive, i.e. Scottsdale’s Scenic Drive. Over those years, the Scenic Drive plant identification signs and exhibits have been established, maintained, and enhanced. Special thanks to Friends of the Scenic Drive, a corps of volunteers that conduct regular roadside cleanups and other projects related to the Scenic Drive.

45 Reasons

Established 45 years ago, GPPA has worked to protect and enhance the quality of life in the north Scottsdale Sonoran Desert. Its most important tools have been community service and education. Special thanks to GPPA’s members who support its efforts by contributing a membership fee of approximately $50 per year. We also thank those board members and members who have been active in the community by serving on City of Scottsdale boards and commissions and on the boards of HOA’s and community nonprofits. Also deserving of standing applause are the numerous volunteers who have worked on fund-raisers and other GPPA and Friends of the Scenic Drive initiatives.

39 Reasons

The first edition of A Peek at the Peak (The Peak) magazine, the publication that you’re reading now, was published 36 years ago as GPPA’s six page newsletter for Pinnacle Peak residents. We thank the individuals, nonprofit organizations and the City of Scottsdale for contributing articles, photographs and videos and the people who donated their time to producing and distributing The Peak and related email and social media publications. The board gives a round of applause to The Peak‘s advertisers and donors. The Peak‘s primary missions are to retain a reader’s attention and to support the Scenic Drive and GPPA’s community goals.

26 Reasons

The City of Scottsdale Adopt-A-Road program was established in 1996 as part of its Keep Scottsdale Beautiful initiative.  Friends of the Scenic Drive, a group of volunteers within GPPA has participated in the program since its inception. Friends has organized from three to six cleanups a year with from 15-50 volunteers participating in each cleanup. Les Conklin, founder of Friends of the Scenic Drive and GPPA’s president, recently was recognized by the city as one of two Adopt-A-Road Coordinators, who have continuously supported the program since 1996.

It Adds Up

So happy holidays from Maricopa County’s oldest scenic drive, north Scottsdale’s first nonprofit organization , our area’s oldest continuously published magazine and Friends of the Scenic Drive, a founding participant in Scottsdale’s Adopt-A-Road program. If our math is correct, 59 + 45+ 39 + 26 = 169. It all adds up to decades of dedicated community service. So, thank YOU and the many community-minded people who have contributed! With your continuing support  we can keep these traditions for years to come.

DONATE NOW AND YOU’LL RECEIVE ANOTHER THANK YOU!
