Governor appoints Scottsdale Water executive director to prestigious commission
Gov. Doug Ducey recently appointed Scottsdale Water Executive Director Brian Biesemeyer to serve as a commissioner on the Arizona Water Protection Fund.
The fund is a competitive state grant program that provides an annual source of funding to restore, maintain and enhance river and riparian resources throughout Arizona. This includes projects that benefit fish and wildlife that are dependent on these important resources. The commissioners oversee the funding process.
“It is first an honor to be appointed by the governor and second, it is a privilege to help the Arizona Water Protection Fund fulfill its mission,” said Biesemeyer. “As a third generation Arizonan, I have always enjoyed our precious water resources, and water has influenced my family’s history in Arizona as well as my choice of careers.”
To date, the commission has invested in 237 projects and contributed about $47 million toward the restoration, protection and enhancement of river and riparian resources in Arizona. As a result, Arizona citizens have realized many benefits from these investments through improvements in water quality, in-stream flows/water supplies, biodiversity, fish and wildlife habitat, recreation, flood control and overall watershed health.
Biesemeyer will serve a three-year term.
