Public hearing for “Truth in Taxation” takes place Tuesday. A public hearing on Scottsdale’s proposed property tax levy will occur before final budget adoption, scheduled at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Scottsdale City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Cyber security firm Datashield moving to SkySong. One of the fastest-growing cyber security firms on the continent is moving its headquarters to SkySong, bringing with it dozens of employees. The company, which operates 24/7, detects and responds to cyber threats.

Listen to the music at railroad park’s free Sunday night concert. Top 40s The Real Thing takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks – or buy munchies on-site. Train and carousel tickets are $2 each with kids 2 and younger riding free with a paying adult. Concerts continue through July 2.
Be part of the muddy tradition at this year’s Mighty Mud Mania. Come sling mud at this year’s Mighty Mud Mania from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Chaparral Park. This event offers muddy obstacles for people of all ages and ability levels.

Downtown self-guided biking tour highlights McDowell and Camelback mountains. The city debuted the first of several planned self-guided bicycle tours. Called the Mountain Vista route, the 2.3 mile loop begins and ends at Main Street and Brown Avenue. The route includes two stops where mountain views are framed with interpretive panels that tell stories of the mountains on display. The frame that views the McDowell Mountains was installed along the south bank of the Arizona Canal. The Camelback Mountain frame is at 68th Street and the Arizona Canal.
Three new exhibits open at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. They spotlight the Grand Canyon, Western film history and the bronze sculptures of Prescott, Arizona, artist John Coleman. Also of interest are two smaller, continuing exhibitions that highlight Scottsdale’s origins as an arts epicenter.
Aquatic centers available for private rentals. Consider McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center or Eldorado pool for a unique party venue. Both facilities are available to rent from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays through August.
The luck of the Irish … and the Arabian Library. Nine-year-old Cathy Graham from Galway, Ireland, sent a book to the Arabian Library thinking it was checked out from that branch. She explained that her grandmother had bought the book at a used book store in Ireland. Cathy felt she should return it. Library employees think the book was actually purchased from one of the Library Shops where used books are sold. The book, “The Kingdom of Wrenly,” was published in 2014 and the library purchased it in 2016 for the collection area “Castles & Crowns.” How the book ended up nearly 5,000 miles from Scottsdale is anyone’s guess!

Attend free “Summer Color Workshop” Saturday. Landscapes don’t have to be drab during summer heat. Learn about heat-tolerant plants that provide color during our hottest months. The program takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mustang Library.
Celebrate dads at senior centers’ pancake breakfasts. “The Singing Cowboy” will entertain you while you play outdoor games and eat a hearty breakfast: Wednesday, June 14, at Granite Reef Senior Center; or Friday, June 16, at Via Linda Senior Center. Both take place at 10 a.m. Cost is $5 for Scottsdale residents.
Library’s Writer in Residence offers free workshops on improving writing skills. Sharon Skinner presents: “Setting: Where in the World…?” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Civic Center Library; and “Point of View: Who…Are…You?” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Arabian Library. Personal appointments also are available.
Take a moonlight swim this June. UV rays can damage skin in less than 15 minutes. Avoid the danger by swimming under the stars at Moonlight Swims: Friday, June 16, at McDowell Mountain Ranch; and Saturday, June 17, at Eldorado. Both run from 5 to 9 p.m.
