HEADLINESEconomic Development Department now an “Accredited Economic Development Organization.” Earning this accreditation tells the community and prospects that the city has attained a measure of excellence in economic development assuring that their trust is well-placed and their business is in good hands. Scottsdale is now the second Arizona organization to achieve this honor and the 58th in the nation – out of thousands of economic development organizations.
There’s a story behind the flagpole at Scottsdale’s Gateway Trailhead. Visitors to Scottsdale’s Gateway Trailhead will pass near an American Flag that carries its own special message about sacrifice and appreciation. One year ago, two young men were looking for a way to recognize veterans and their contributions. They particularly wanted to honor Brian Kennedy, the brother of a family friend and a Marine corporal who gave his life in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Funk and rhythm and blues band Outside the Line takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks – or buy munchies on-site. Train and carousel tickets are $2 each with kids 2 and younger riding free with a paying adult. Concerts continue through July 2.
Detour Company Theatre presents The Addams Family: A New Musical, June 2-4. The Detour Company Theatre cast, comprised of adults with developmental and other challenges, performs at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is free.
Be part of the muddy tradition at this year’s Mighty Mud Mania. Come sling mud at this year’s Mighty Mud Mania from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Chaparral Park. This event offers muddy obstacles for people of all ages and ability levels.
