Online survey lets residents answer, “How is Scottsdale doing?” Scottsdale residents are invited to take an online survey to rate their quality of life and provide anonymous feedback on city programs and services. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. A report of survey results will be available online in February.

Take steps to promote acceptance at Regional Unity Walk, Jan. 28. Scottsdale is joining other Valley cities for the annual Unity Walk to promote mutual respect and understanding. The one-mile walk over the Mill Avenue Bridge begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, and ends at Tempe Beach Park. There will be entertainment and cookies and hot chocolate. Bring your family, friends and pets. The Scottsdale assembly is meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Tempe Town Lake Marina on the north side of the lake.

Cactus League names 2017 Hall of Fame inductees. Ernie Banks, Larry Doby, Monte Irvin and Willie Mays earned the honor for changing the face of sport and society. The four African-Americans helped break baseball’s color barrier in the 1940s and ‘50s. Their induction takes place during the league’s annual luncheon at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, 5001 N. Scottsdale Road. Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction runs through Sunday. Hundreds of the world’s finest collector automobiles are ready for your viewing at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction. The auction is at WestWorld, 16601 N. Pima Road.

City to name Brown’s Ranch Trailhead amphitheater in honor of Carolyn Allen. Among her most notable accomplishments during 16 years as a state legislator was Allen’s unwavering support for legislation that led to the acquisition and preservation of more than 15,000 acres of state trust land within Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve. “The Honorable Carolyn Allen Amphitheater” will be dedicated at a public event at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead. It will be a permanent symbol of her legacy not only as a preservation advocate, but also as a champion for the arts, health care and Arizona.

Bring your favorite four-legged friend to Paws in the Park. Talk to experienced pet professionals, learn about dog adoptions, win prizes and hear entertainment – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Chaparral Park’s off leash area. Dog food donations will be accepted and will benefit Vista del Camino’s Pet Pantry and rescue agencies.

Learn about and comment on proposed Civic Center Mall Master Plan. Stakeholders are invited to learn about future uses for the Civic Center Mall and identify opportunities for improvements and renovations. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. The proposed master plan was created through significant public involvement and collaboration with local business owners.

Curb address painting kits available for loan. Is your house number hard to read, unlit or obscured by landscaping? Add painted house numbers to your curb by borrowing a free curb address painting kit from the city. The kit is free to use and includes stencils, masking tape, brushes and instructions. All you’ll need to do is buy the paint.

Library hosts LEGO Mindstorm programs, Jan. 22-Feb. 26. Enter the exciting world of robotics as kids 12 to 18 learn to build and program LEGO robots using working motors and sensors. The program takes place at 2 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 22-Feb. 26, at Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

Take a jab at getting fit at Club SAR Boxing & Fitness Center. Scottsdale’s Club SAR Boxing & Fitness Center is the perfect spot this January to meet your physical conditioning goals. Classes include Yoga, boxing, kickboxing, conditioning, spin, Tabata, rowing and weight training. Library program teaches you how to get the best out of your travels. Road Scholar, a nonprofit leader in educational travel, presents ideas on taking your upcoming trip to the next level. The free program is from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Civic Center Library.

Learn about “The Art of the Guitar” with Jack Alves. Master guitarist, performer, composer and teacher Jack Alves explains the various types of guitar playing and the historic development of various guitars. Attend the free program from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
