Waste Management Phoenix Open continues through Sunday. Find out why this tournament boasts the largest galleries in golf and has earned the nickname “The Greatest Show on Grass.” The Phoenix Open takes place at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale, 17020 N. Hayden Road. Follow these safety tips.
Paws in the Park delayed by rain; takes place Saturday. Talk to experienced pet professionals, learn about dog adoptions, win prizes and hear entertainment – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Chaparral Park’s off leash area. Dog food donations will be accepted and will benefit Vista del Camino’s Pet Pantry and rescue agencies.

Topics include rainwater harvesting, desert lawn care, irrigation design and troubleshooting, hands-on pruning, an informative Xeriscape garden tour and more. Library and arts center present “Parks and Arts: Paris’s Greenspaces.” Historian Richard S. Hopkins will discuss how many of Paris’s parks and gardens were developed in the 19th century. The free program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Civic Center Library.
Protect your identity by attending “Shred It” event, Feb. 11. Bring your personal and/or commercial documents to the “Shred It” event from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 15355 N. Northsight Blvd. A $3 per box donation is suggested.
Rid your home of household hazardous wastes. Bring them to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the city Corporation Yard, 9191 E. San Salvador.
Exhibit reception and panel celebrate upcoming Cactus League season. Baseball is back, and the public is invited to a free reception and panel discussion Wednesday, Feb. 15, focused on the Cactus League and the first players to be inducted into the Cactus League Hall of Fame. The reception takes place at 5 p.m. in the main exhibit space of Scottsdale’s Civic Center Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd. The library is hosting a 2,500-square-foot historic baseball exhibit produced by the Arizona Spring Training Experience and the Cactus League Hall of Fame.
