The Community Solid Waste and Recycling Strategic Plan will provide a comprehensive approach for the collection, disposal, and reuse of solid waste materials generated within the city, while adhering to environmental and sustainability ethics. A new recruiting website offers potential employees insight into the city. To be more proactive reaching the next generation of job seekers, the city contracted with The Muse to create a site that goes well beyond job listings. It allows the city to share its unique brand as an employer, and showcase its work culture and values. Six employees provide insight into not only their jobs, but what it’s like to work for the city.

Scottsdale celebrates Pinnacle Peak Park’s 15^th anniversary. Visitors will receive commemorative bandanas Thursday, April 20. The nonprofit Friends of Pinnacle Peak Park is paying for the gifts. The 150-acre park is a popular climbing and hiking spot that has hosted more than 3.5 million visitors since opening.

EVENTS

OK Chorale performs at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. Join Yodel ’n Al, Jingel ’n Jud and Tumbleweed Tony for an entertaining program of songs and stories about the Old West. The program runs from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

Celebrate Scottsdale becoming a “Tree City USA” community for the 35^th consecutive year. Mark this milestone and Arbor Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Tree City USA provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs.

Scottsdale Stadium hosts Girls Night Out. Ladies can enjoy a night out from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 22. Enjoy a chick flick, indulge in some well-deserved pampering and grab a nosh from a food truck.

Cactus League Spring Training draws more than 1.9 million fans, sets record. The actual number, 1,941,347, was a 2 percent bump over last year. The San Francisco Giants, who play at Scottsdale Stadium, saw the league’s second largest crowds with 182,518 fans. The team followed the World Champion Chicago Cubs who hosted 251,899 attendees.

Public invited to comment on text amendment changes to “care homes/group homes.” The city is hosting two open houses to discuss amending definitions to this category and modifying criteria for these homes in single-family residential districts. They take place Wednesday, April 19, at the Granite Reef Senior Center; and Thursday, April 27, at the Via Linda Senior Center. Both run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Celebrate Earth Day with citywide litter pickup. Celebrate Earth Day 2017 and keep Scottsdale “Clean and Scenic” as part of the Keep Scottsdale Beautiful event Saturday, April 22. Trash bags, safety vests and cotton gloves are provided to registered Adopt-a-Road groups.

Classical series single tickets on sale for Scottsdale Arts members. Subscribers to the Virginia G. Piper Concert Series and “Keyboard Conversations® With Jeffrey Siegel” may purchase single tickets to any concert in the series, including Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Entertainment Extravaganza showcases senior talent. Scottsdale Senior Services’ signature variety show returns at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Get free admission with a canned food donation for Vista del Camino’s Food Bank.

Library Book Discussions cover gamut of genres. Groups meet once a month. Find topics, dates and library locations.

Free library workshop set to inspire authors. The “Write On” workshop topics include writing in various genres and learning about the trends in book marketing and publishing. The workshop runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Civic Center Library.
