Triangle Leaf Bursage This member of the Sunflower Family, which is also called rabbit bush and burrobush, is the most common plant along the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive. It is also one of the most important as it acts a “nurse” plant from young cacti that grow in its shade. It grows to 2′ in height but most specimens in this area are less than 1′. Its leaves are grayish green above, white and woolly beneath; triangular-shaped, with fine “teeth”. It blooms December through April with greenish, petalless flowers up to 1/4″ wide. The flowers are followed by burlike fruits with hook-tipped spines.
