Learn ways to save water and money with Scottsdale’s free landscape workshops Registration is open now

Learn how to use water wisely while enhancing the beauty of your home and saving money by attending Scottsdale’s water efficiency workshops. Classes and the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden tour are free, open to all Scottsdale residents and appropriate for all skill levels.

Back by popular demand is the Landscape Makeover & Rainwater Harvesting workshop. Landscape design professional Jo Miller will help you design your own yard in class while sharing tips on how to harvest rainwater. Irrigation Specialist Jeff Lee will teach complimentary courses, instructing on how to both design and maintain an efficient irrigation system. Other courses include choosing the right plant for the right place and taking control of your landscape watering.

Is your HOA struggling with water budgeting? New this season, Water Conservation is teaming up with the city of Scottsdale Neighborhood College to offer two classes, Managing & Reducing HOA Water Use and “Smart” Irrigation Controllers, to connect homeowners to free tools and resources to manage and reduce their water use.

Traditional workshops will be held at the Civic Center Library, 3839 N Drinkwater Blvd. Workshops being hosted by Water Conservation and offered through Neighborhood College will be held at the Mustang Library, 10101 N 90th Street.

Advanced registration is required and can be made online at ScottsdaleAZ.gov, search “workshops” or by calling 480-312-5690. Confirmations will be sent via email.

Fall 2016 Schedule:
Managing & Reducing HOA Water Use

Learn about Scottsdale Water’s free tools and resources to help HOAs manage and reduce their water use. Understanding how much water is needed is the first step in effective water management. Estimated water budgets help HOAs and their landscapers understand how much water their landscape needs, how much is expected for interior use and helps identify opportunities for improved water efficiency. Additionally, Scottsdale Water has rebates, landscape publications and water efficiency experts on hand to further assist HOAs to reduce water use.

Landscape Makeover & Rainwater Harvesting

Learn design basics, including rainwater harvesting, to jump start your landscape makeover. Landscape design professional Jo Miller will have you design your own yard in class while sharing tips and techniques on space planning and improved plant health. Pencil and paper will be provided, however feel free to bring a bird’s-eye view drawing of your home/yard to class.

Drip Irrigation Design & Installation

Simple things you need to know to make your drip irrigation system efficient and easy to maintain. Irrigation Specialist Jeff Lee will show you how to design and install a drip system.

Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden Tour

Take a walking tour (approximately two miles) through the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden at Chaparral Park with caretaker Bill Casenhiser. This demonstration garden is home to over 7,000 plants from 200 species. See water-thrifty plants in action and have your desert plant questions answered by an expert. This tour fills quickly, so register early, and please cancel if you cannot attend.
