Greetings Hikers and Volunteers
If you have not been to the park recently, we have a new feature attraction . . . a large boulder in the middle of the trail near PK19! We are working on getting our trail contractor scheduled to jackhammer it and off the trail. When we do so, we will need to close the trail. Stay tuned. As soon as I know the project day, I will let you know!
Preceding this boulder relocating, we had a couple of days of tried and true monsoon! Yay! I opened the park on Tuesday, July 13th to a very trashed parking lot, trailhead, ramada and trail! The night before we had a microburst that hit the park and dumped 1.3″ of rain on us! Hikers that live in the vicinity told me that with that storm also included a ½ hour of intense hail! The plants were defoliated and the ramada was full of water! The next day, Wednesday we received another .75″ of rain, and a little bit of drizzle here and there the rest of the week. If anyone in town happened to get any photos of the park on Tuesday after the microburst, would you please send them to me? Our NOAA weather representative would like photos since it was such an isolated incident.
A huge shout out of “Thanks!” to the Trail Crew for their hardwork this week on the trail . . . with more to come! And to our staff, Susan and Jose for cleaning the ramada and getting it back to something that can be used as a sitting and gathering area again!
August 1st is Sunday. This means that the opening and the closing times will be changing. We will be going to a 5:15 am for our opening and 7:30 pm for our closing.
Enzo has been having a lot of fun with the Pinnale Peak Facebook page. Be sure to follow us on Facebook if you do social media! AND . . . It will make Enzo VERY happy!
The plan as of now is that we are going to accept new volunteer applications beginning in August.! Yipee! We need you! Our trainings will be held during the month of October. If you haven’t already let me know that you are interested in joining us, please send me an email indicating so. Next week I will be sending out the applications to all of you who have contacted me.
Thanks to the Friends of PPP, the popsicles are back! If you need a little cooling off after a hot hike, stop by the office to get one!
Thank you everyone! Have a happy day! 😊
