PP Hiker and Volunteer Update 9-9-21

Pinnacle Peak
Hiker and Volunteer Update 9-9-21

From: Massman, Yvonne

September 9, 2021

Hello Hikers and Volunteers!

Our opening time will be staying at 5:45 am, but the closing time will be changing on Wednesday the 15th, to 6:30 pm.

This month kicked off “Ssssseptember Ssssssssnake” month at PPP.  Included in this very fun title is a new activity time for kids on Sundays from 2-4p. Bring your kids, the neighbor kids, grandkids, a friend’s kids and join Susan in the ramada for an educational activity and craft session! The activity is free with no registration, just drop in.

Start planning your hiking destination now for October 5th and 6th! Pinnacle Peak Park and trail will be completely closed those days so that our trail contractor can work on the trail and remove the boulder at PK19. If you would like information about some of the preserve trails that are within 3 and 5 miles of the park, stop at the office. We will gladly give you some ideas and information about other hiking trails for you to explore.

Completely unrelated to the park . . . but, if you live in Scottsdale, beginning November 1st your recycling and trash pick-up day is most likely going to change. On October 23rd we will be having an Eagle Scout doing a restoration project around the ramada to stop the water from coming into it! If you haven’t noticed, that line below the seating area on the concrete is how high the water was in there THREE times this monsoon!

Our presenters are returning with the kick-off being the Phoenix Herpetological Society in the ramada on Saturday, September 18th from 10 am until 12 pm. Such fun! Afterall, it is “Ssssseptember Ssssssssnake” month!

And lastly, still speaking of snakes. . . be extra aware that they are active, especially if you are here right at opening when it is still dark. Enzo had a smaller rattlesnake find it’s way back to the office three times last Friday evening when he was here for the astronomy talk. The office door was open and no matter where Enzo took the little guy, it found its way back to the open door! Wow, that’s exhilarating!

We’d like to think that summer is winding down . . . not so . . . it’s still hot! Remember, we have a freezer full of popscicles to share! Thank you! Have a happy day! 😊
