Pinnacle Peak Patio Site Plan Announced

June 6, 2014

According to the Arizona Republic, plans call for Pinnacle Peak Patio, which opened in 1957, to be replaced by the Reserve at Pinnacle Peak Patios, a development of 50 luxury townhouses. The property was recently acquired by a development group headed by Michael Lieb for $2.4 million.

The developer is asking for a major amendment to the City of (C) 2003 Gateway,Inc.Scottsdale General Plan, which is the first step in rezoning the property from commercial to residential. According to the request, the townhouses will be priced from $650,000 to $900,000 and the change to the property  will reduce noise pollution from special events and live music and dramatically cut traffic in the area by 80 percent or more.

Rachel McElhanon, who is the daughter of Pinnacle Peak Patio’s owner, stated that the iconic western restaurant has struggled financially because of increased competition, and the development of nearby golf courses, resorts, and luxury homes, which made the location less desirable.

Initial plans were recently submitted to the city to replace nearby Greasewood Flat with residential housing and relocate the restaurant to a more rural area to the east.
