Pinnacle Peak Park Update: 9/4/2020

Hello Hikers and Volunteers!

Checking in to remind

“Sunset at Pinnacle Peak Grill” by Kimberly Coleman, 2018 Beautiful Skies Contest

you that we will have a “mid” schedule closing time change on September 7th  to 6:45 pm. Then, on September 15th the opening time will remain at5:45 am for another 2 weeks, however the closing time will change that day to 6:30 pm.

Today our new entrance sign was installed (photo below) and it looks great! This improvement was paid for by our non-profit, the Friends of Pinnacle Peak Park. I love it! We also had 25 new trail signs delivered. These will be installed when the temperatures get a little cooler and the trail crew returns back to the park.

With covid still in the news and lingering, we are not going to be offering our Full Moon hikes, Jingle Hike to Santa or scheduling any presenters in the ramada on the weekends. This is really unfortunate because in doing so we are missing out on the chance to educate our visitors about how amazing the Sonoran Desert is! Darn.

Additionally, our other education venue is our wonderful office volunteers! The city has still not given us the okay for them to return, so our trail rovers the volunteers assisting and this weekend, we will be having a few volunteers outside of the office to answer questions and help visitors who are here for the holiday weekend.

I’ve been stretching the hoses out around the office to give our landscape a good long drink! This has encouraged the creosote outside of the office to explode in flowers which the bees are delighting in! The drinking fountain has been pretty active with them as well! Be(e) sure to remember that swatting is not a good practice, because it basically only aggravates them! We have a really great poster as you walk in to help you to negotiate interacting with them in a favorable way!

Please let me know if you have any questions! I am always happy to hear about good things that you have noticed or are happening too! Yay! Thank you as always for being a part of our community! Have a great day!
