Pinnacle Peak Park Hiker & Volunteer Update August 13, 2020

Hello Hikers and Volunteers!

Our park hours will be changing on Saturday. Opening time will become 5:30a and closing 7:15p. Also, just a reminder that in addition to the September 1st time change, September 7th we do another time change that is outside of the scheduled 1st and 15th with closing going to 6:45p.

Oh no! Our signature saguaro at PK8 is not looking good and there is not anything that we can do about it. It appears that there may be a serious issue with rot occurring in the center. Please see the photo included photo. It is going to be a very sad and heart breaking day when we lose this beauty that over the years has provided us a look into its bouquet of flowers in the spring!

History was made at Pinnacle Peak Park on Saturday, August 8, 2020 when 17-year-old Victoria Rader, became one of the very first female Eagle Scouts in our nation! She earned this prestigious title after completing her Eagle Scout project of fabricating a gabion bench at the end of the Pinnacle Peak trail. The bench is still in the form stage, with that being removed some time this week. Another neat connection to this project is that the Scoutmaster of this Troop 3030, is the city’s very own Fire Captain, Gary Burns!

The ”record heat” prevails! In the past if there was someone who was overheated, we would get them in the office, crank on the fans and get to cooling them down with ice packs. That was the past. Currently the office is designated for staff only and we are not allowed to bring anyone in! That said, be sure that you are arriving hydrated with supplies to stay so! Of course we won’t just watch you wither away . . .

If you have been here recently then you may have noticed that the sign by the bridge is missing. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of PPP, that sign is out for an upgrade and redesign! The new look is amazing! This project also includes the trail signs. They too will have a new look and be will be changed out within the next few months! Stay tuned! And the End of the Trail sign will be returning then! Shawn, Terry, Matt . . .

The Friends of PPP 2021 calendars are at the printer and could be arriving at any time! This year we upped the quantity number to 600. They will be the same price as last year, one for $12, two for $20! Those who have a photo included receive a complimentary calendar! Let this be you incentive to submit photos! They are accepted all year long at the website of pinnaclepeakphotos@gmail.com. Yay! Let’s get this 2020 bit moving along and onto to 2021!

Both of the bathroom faucet aerators have both been replaced and the water is now coming out at a much nicer rate! It is a small and simple pleasure! Right on!

As always we thank you for your support and love of the park! Please let me know if you have any questions, or kind comments! Have a great day!
