The first resevoir created on the Verde River is named Bartlett Lake. It is located at approximately 1,600 feet above sea level. It’s approximately 31 miles from Pinnacle Peak Park and it takes about 51 minutes to drive there. The closest town is Carefree, a few miles north of Pinnacle Peak Park.

The drive is scenic from start to finish, especially in the spring. This year the road to Barlett is ablaze with splashes of golden orange poppies . Lupine is growing along the roadside and on mountainsides. Cacti and agavi add to the buffet of desert splendor.

Bartlett Lake is located within the Tonto National Forest. Activies available at the lake and the surrounding area include fishing, swimming, waterskiing, camping and picnicking. Trailer spaces and restrooms are available. A U.S. Forest Service Tonto Pass is not required to drive to Bartlett Lake and you will find  convenient free parking areas.
