Peak Contributing Writer in Music Book of the Year

“A Peak at the Peek Magazine” contributing writer Rick Smith will be included in an appearance at Changing Hands Bookstore March 15 with author Doug Bradley of Madison, WI., in a presentation of his book “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.”

Named 2015 Music Book of the Year by Rolling Stone Magazine, “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.”

traces music as a lifeline for those who served in the Vietnam War from its beginning to its end and beyond.

Personal reflections drive the books narrative with voices of ordinary soldiers, airmen, seamen and marines telJing how the music of the 60’s and 70’s impacted and related to their experiences. There are also “solo” essays by contributing veterans including musician Country Joe McDonald.

One of the solo essays is by Smith, a Peak Writing Contest winner and occasional story contributor. Smith’s solo appears in the book’s introduction and is about a variety of music including the book’s title song by The Animals.

The book is co-authored by University of Wisconsin professor Craig Werner. The event at Changing Hands Bookstore March 15 is at 7 p.m.
