“No Contact” Scenic Drive Litter Pickup, Sat. Oct. 24

September 1, 2020.

A THANK YOU, plus an invitation to help keep  Scottsdale beautiful.

First, a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped Friends of the Scenic Drive and the Greater Pinnacle Peak Association with countless cleanups over the past 25 years.  You have helped us face numerous quality of life challenges over the years such as road widenings, undergrounding of utility lines, large construction truck litter spills, installation of planted medians  and more. To keep volunteers safe from COcOVID-19 this will be a ‘NO CONTACT” cleanup.

Our Usual Invitation

Picking up litter is more enjoyable than you would expect, and volunteers will be at least 13 miles of roadside (6 1/2 miles on each side) that will look terrific. Friends of the Scenic Drive, one of the founding groups, has part of Scottsdale’s Adopt-A-Road Program in 1996. Visitors or full-time resident – it matters not – you are welcome and important to our environment. The cleanup is outdoors and takes less than  two hours, from 8:00 – 9:45  a.m. on October 24,  2020.

Unusually Safe Pickup

When you arrive at the sign-in location of choice you will pickup a bag of supplies, including a litter “grabber,”, safety vest, gloves, trash bags, the usual City of Scottsdale waiver form and a pen. The supply bags will be safely distanced from one another. Just pickup a bag, sign the waiver form and drop it in a box that will be available, and you are off to your designated pickup area. At the sign-in location a volunteer will be available to assist you. FACE MASKS are required as SOCIAL DISTANCING will be practiced at the both sign-in locations. The entire event is outside and normally people pick up litter alone or with their spouse. At the end of the cleanup just leave the litter grabber at your original registration location. We will not hold the normal drawings after the event. The purpose of this activity is to protect the environment, we also need to work to protect each other .

 Convenient Sign-In/Pickup Locations

Pitch-in with 15-25 other volunteers that will be spread out over 13 miles of roadside.. Friends mans two sign-in locations: #1. northern Scenic Drive entry sign (located on the west side of Scottsdale Road south of Carefree Highway, immediately south of Terravita Marketplace and the entry road to Walgreens), #2. Scenic Drive monument sign area (located on east side of Scottsdale Road 3/4 mile north of Happy Valley Road, 1/4 mile south of Jomax Road, across from MacDonald’s Ranch).
