Artists and Performers Enrich Enjoyment and Natural Beauty of Carefree Gardens

I was only being courteous with my fellow performer when I asked him if I had my amp turned up too loud. He was playing guitar, too, a little further down the meandering path from me. We were both OK with each other’s volumes.

We were involved with a new weekend event in Carefree that brings human activity and interaction to the beautifully landscaped Carefree Gardens for the enjoyment of locals and visitors who stroll the grounds.

Sights and Sounds in the Garden will be happening 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Memorial Day Weekend. The event places artists and musical performers at various locations throughout the garden.

As one of the musical performers, I was pleased with the reaction I was getting to my music and to the event as well.

Up near the sundial another guitarist played beautiful music. Painters quietly painted but also chatted with passers-by who had questions. The sublime tones of Native American music drifted hypnotically from a flautist.

What a sweet place to be on a warm sunny morning or afternoon. Close your eyes. But wait.

Suddenly, a new act is playing off to my left. It was a group act and the overlapping of our volumes could be an issue – not for them, but for me.
Their playing produced a sound more beautiful than any in the park. And they were right next to me. I lingered between songs of my own so I could listen to their music. I closed my eyes and listened and it made me very happy.

In the end, there was no volume issue. We easily played in harmony. And, what kind of music did they play?

Well, they played the slide and the swings, and the climby things. They were children playing in the playground area of the Carefree Gardens – just off to my left.

The sound of children playing – squealing, laughing, screaming, running, climbing and laughing some more. Surely the sweetest music of all. How lucky I was.

Sights and Sounds in the Garden. Come listen in.
