Spending many evenings through numerous years at the Kiva for Planning Commission or Scottsdale City Council meetings, there is one constant comment heard. That is: “They never listen to us and they represent us.”

The whole zoning picture has changed dramatically as each new zoning change now becomes part of the General Plan. Previously, if construction was not started within a specified  period of time it reverted to the old zoning.

The “Good Ole Boys” have had it their way for years. They have consistently destroyed hundreds of acres of pristine desert in the name of “PROGRESS.” Developers keep coming back 3, 4, to 20 or more times-to eventually receive the zoning they were aiming for. The crowded examples surround the beauty of low density that was the original plan of the Pinnacle Peak area.

Your OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING. It’s up to you to become informed, ask hard questions of the candidates, attend forums, gather information; then make your decision on whom you support. DON’T STAND FOR FLUFF AND NONSENSE.

If you think that we’ve had a lot of pressure on zoning these last few years, it’s nothing compared to the cases already looming on our horizon. It depends on each of us as to whom is elected, and in that election the future direction ofthis City of Scottsdale. You will not have the privilege of another course correction for two years. It’s your OPPORTUNITY to make a difference. Be sure your voice is counted! VOTE INTHE PRIMARY ON FEBRUARY 20, 1996.
