Green Transformation in Southern Scottsdale

Location: Scottsdale Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road (northwest corner of McDowell and Granite Reef, behind the convenience store)

It’s easy to embrace the latest energy efficient technologies and environmentally responsive features in a newly constructed home or apartment but what about mid-century buildings? Hear about the major renovation and creative modernization to Scottsdale’s first all electric showcase home (circa 1950s) and the resourceful reinvention of a 1960’s apartment building in a moderate to low-income neighborhood.
Russell Moore, Professional Engineer and Sustainability Advocate

Russ has been an engineer/consultant in the valley for almost 30 years, with experience in transportation systems and infrastructure design and construction. A third generation engineer and originally from Alaska, he had early interest in sustainable, green-building, and energy-saving residential construction, submitting and placing in the AIA Alaska chapter design competition with an energy and space efficient concept as a high-schooler in 1976. That interest grew, working with contractors, architects, and engineers on projects from highways to houses, up to and including the “Lewis House” project, this evenings topic.

Gerardo Ramirez, Plaza Osborn LLC

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Gerardo has lived in Arizona for 20 years and is a former research scientist and software engineer. Gerardo has dedicated the past seven years in renovating a 1960’s apartment complex into a green affordable oasis in a moderate to low income area in south Scottsdale. Hear about Gerardo’s journey and the creative and economic solutions for moderate living.

Paul D. Hopkins, Plaza Osborn LLC

Paul was born and raised in New Jersey and is a retired information technology executive. Paul has dedicated the past seven years in renovating a 1960’s apartment complex into a green affordable oasis in a moderate to low income area in south Scottsdale. Hear about Paul’s journey and the creative and economic solutions for moderate living.
