Fun Peeks: Toilet Paper Blues, Paul

We don’t recommend this for fun. In the photo that was taken in December 1947, Lee Pendrick, belayed to his brother, leaps the cleft that divides the top of Pinnacle Peak. Always dangerous, now illegal, this jump was staged for the Boy Scouts of America Magazine. A neighbor who happened to witness an earlier jump reported the boys to their father.

There are lots of ways to have fun. A very easy way is to take a peek at the numerous stories, photos and videos below. We thank The Peak‘s readers for these contributions. Check out these selections dating back to July 4, 2018.

This TV show was ahead of its time.  Just in time but just in time for a needed laugh. I’m still wiping the tears away.

Recommendation for a Book That’s Lots of Fun to Read

What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe

Munroe’s book has more than 3,994 reviews on Amazon and a 4.6 out of 5 star rating.

You don’t have be good at math or physics to experience many laughs out loud (LOL) with this book but an  open, flexible mind, bolstered by a tad of silliness helps.

Curious about the scientific, hilarious (sometimes scary) answer to some absurb questions that you’ve probably never thought of?

– “If every person on Earth aimed a laser pointed at the Moon at the same time, would it change color?”

– “If you had a printed version of the whole (say English) Wikipedia, how many printers would you need in order to keep up with the changes made to the liveversion?”

– “What would happen if you tried to hit a baseball pitchedat 90 percent the speed of light?”

– “What would happen if everyone on Earth stood as close to each other as they could and jumped, everyone landing on the ground at the same instant?”

– “What if everyone actually had only one soul mate, a random person somewhere in the world?”

If you are wondering what could possibly be the answers to the above questions then invest a few dollars and a few hours and read the book, Visit Amazon.com for more information.

Note that the  content of Munroe’s book has been selected by the author from material that has been posted on his xkcd.com website.

The website experiences millions of visits per week. Visitors of all ages are invited to ask strange questions like those above. Munroe selects the best of these questions, researches their answers and uses clear, technically-accurate, witty writing and humerous stick figures to provide answers.

Fun Peek: Haircut Revelation

Contributed by Judy Hogrelius Hardardt

Moses

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and asked his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car” The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer and they agreed on it.

After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut.”

The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.”

The father responded, “Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”
