Howdie Pardner,

Yup. It’s good to see you again. Desert Les is back. Not because them Peak readers demanded it but because the fool editor told Desert Les to fill this here white space with interestin’ doings in time for Labor Day readin’.

Well, Desert Les’ story tank was runnin’ on empty when he was saved at the bell by video-film contributor Laurel Strohmeyer. Yup. Here’s the note she wrote to Desert Les.

Hello everyone and Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I just returned from a two week trip to LaJolla with my fabulous sisters, niece, nephew and his gal! I wanted to share this little short film I put together. It’s a combination of timelapse, video, and photography stills. LaJolla holds a special place in my heart and it’s even more so now after spending this most enjoyable time wth my family.

Hope you enjoy it!

Laurel

.

Pardner, Desert Les did enjoy it, despite all that water. Desert Les prefers dry heat. Click below to watch Laurel’s beautiful and relaxin’ short film.

Another Road Trip

Dang, being saved at the bell by Laurel jingled a recollection deep in Desert Les’ brain.  He recalled that he and Desert Judy also took a road trip in August. Friend, we seen some mountains that are shaped like bells and if the sun is right and your imagination’s  bright, they look maroon (no firewater required).

The Maroon Bells.

The Marroon Peaks exceed 14,000 feet in height.

Maroon Lake is in the middle of the picture.

Maroon Lake Surrounded by Fields of Flowers.

Maroon Lake is located in a glacial valley.

Hikers Mountain Bob and Island Lynn.

Desert Les and Desert Judy wish Peak readers a happy Labor Day and thanks again to Laurel for ringing the bell.

The folks that discovered them bell-shaped mountains are real clever. Yup. They named them the Maroon Bells, with two peaks named Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak. Them bells are located about 12 miles southwest of Aspen, Colorado.

The mountains were purdy but the snow and glacial lake water made Desert Les shiver and shake. Heck, we’ve got mountains here in Arizona and it will be warm on Labor Day. Yup.
