Foothills Community Foundation Expands Educational Outreach with Leadership Training Program

Jim Sherbert, Chairman of the Board of Foothills Community Foundation (FCF) is pleased to announce the recent addition of Desert Foothills Leadership (DFL) to the FCF family of community non-profits.

Founded in 2018 by area business and community leaders, DFL intends to foster interest and expertise in all areas of community leadership in the Desert Foothills region with programs that focus on health care, tourism, resource sustanability, public safety, education, the arts and other community needs.  DFL was founded based on a simple question posed by Carefree resident, Phil Corso : ”How can the Desert Foothills area grow future community leaders ? ”

Jim Sherbert stated that: ”This is a great fit for FCF’s mission of providing a home for non-profits committed to improving the quality of life for citizens of all ages here in the north valley. DFL promises to deliver a valuable asset—education of future leaders with a solid commitment to community service.

Michael Krahe agreed saying : “As members of this community, we see a need to develop knowledgeable community leaders with a commitment to the future. We look forward to helping participants develop a deeper understanding of how all aspects our community operate and address particular challenges.”

The Desert Foothills Leadership Board of Directors is comprised of four active community leaders :

Phil Corso has been an Arizona resident since 1975 enjoying a long career as a commercial real estate developer and broker. He has been active in a community service over the span of his career He is a Life Member of the Scottsdale Charros, a community service and philanthropic organization serving Scottsdale since 1962

– John Crane is a long-term resident of Carefree and has actively served the community in many roles, recently as a member of Carefree Town Council and currently as Vice Mayor. He is on the board of the Desert Foothills Land Trust and is an Arizona Site Steward monitoring Indian archeological sites in Cave Creek/Carefree.

– Michael Krahe is a Carefree Council Member with extensive expertise in business strategy, execution, human resources and technology. A former executive for a Fortune 400 Property Casualty Insurance Company, he is President and CEO of the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines.

– Daren Dorm is Site Manager of Paradise Valley Community College in North Scottsdale and serves on the board of the Desert Foothills Family YMCA. He has extensive experience in community leadership programs focused on student development, especially of disadvantaged youth.

Foothills Community Foundation develops and supports programs that seek to enhance the quality of life for residents of Northern Scottsdale and the Foothills region through life-long learning, community service and the arts. Current programs include Desert Awareness Committee, Desert Foothills Theater, Holland Community Center, Kachina’s Place and Partners in Education.
