City of Scottsdale COVID-19 Update as of March 18

**New: Scottsdale libraries are closed

The Scottsdale Public Library has closed all branches until further notice. Limited library services will be available. The city is working on ways to serve customers in “social distancing” appropriate ways, including drive through window service, call center and the “Ask A Librarian” online service.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Arizona Department of Health Services are recommending that older people and those with serious underlying health conditions stay home and away from other people. See the CDC guidance at Coronavirus.gov.

PUBLIC SERVICES

All public services such as solid waste collection, water, police and fire remain fully operational. Staff in these areas are taking steps recommended by public health experts to keep things clean and prevent the spread of virus.

If you need to do business with the city, chances are you can do it online – search at ScottsdaleAZ.gov or find a complete listing of services here. Here are the three most popular “services” websites:

Scottsdale’s Call Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each business day – call 480-312-3111 for assistance.

 Scottsdale’s drinking water

The U.S. EPA recommends that Americans continue to use and drink tap water as usual. Scottsdale Water, like all municipal water suppliers, uses chlorine disinfection, which is extremely effective in removing and killing pathogens and viruses, including COVID-19.

An important “Do and Don’t” from Scottsdale Water during COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional information about your drinking water, including Scottsdale’s annual Water Quality Reports, are available on our Drinking Water web page.

Passport processing services are canceled through May 4.

PUBLIC FACILITIES

Scottsdale Public Libraries are closed

Limited services are offered. For details visit: ScottsdaleLibrary.org/COVID19

Scottsdale aquatic and fitness centers (including Club SAR) are closed.

Community centers are offering limited hours — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Granite Reef and Via Linda Senior Centers will be open limited hours to provide essential services (including nutrition) for our customers who need it. The centers will be open:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Senior Center Fitness centers are closed

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is open, but the train and carousel are not operating, and the model railroad building and Hartley’s Café are closed.

The Scottsdale City Court has implemented special precautions and procedures – if you have been called to jury duty or have a matter going before Scottsdale City Court, check the court webpage for details.

Scottsdale’s One Stop Shop and Planning and Development Services department is open but implementing temporary changes to minimize potential exposure for staff and customers. Most Planning and Development services can be requested and completed online.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

With the March 16 guidance from federal, state and county public health departments restricting events or social gatherings larger than 10 people, the city has canceled all special events being held by the city or at a city facility for the next eight weeks. This includes AZ Bike Week and other events at WestWorld.

We appreciate event producers and the public who understand that difficult steps are necessary in the ongoing effort to limit the spread of coronavirus in our community.

Restaurants & bars

Scottsdale supports federal, state and county public health guidelines that discourage dine-in options at restaurants and encourage take-out and delivery alternatives. We strongly encourage that restaurants and bars in Scottsdale who choose to remain open adhere to social distancing measures and employee hygiene standards recommended by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZHealth.gov/COVID19).

Scottsdale recreation classes and programs

Recreation programs and classes that were in session are cancelled. Pro-rated refunds for remaining classes will be given to participants. Scottsdale will still allow registration for upcoming recreation spring programs taking place after April 6, with refunds given in the event that these programs are cancelled.

PUBLIC MEETINGS

Boards and Commissions

Most city Board and Commission meetings are cancelled at least through the end of March unless the public body has a specific business or statutory need to meet. In cases where the board or commission needs to meet, remote participation is encouraged. Public comment will be taken via email. Check ScottsdaleAZ.gov search “boards and commissions” for information and schedules specific to different city boards and commissions.
