Saturday, October 28th was National Make a Difference Day. Twenty-two GPPA-Friends of the Scenic Drive volunteers made a difference, clearing 13 miles of roadside. Volunteers covered the entire length of Scottsdale’s historic Scenic Drive along the northern reaches of Scottsdale Road, from Happy Valley Road to Carefree Highway.

Following the cleanup, volunteers were invited to Carvalho’s Brazilian Kitchen for a complimentary buffet breakfast, which was  served on the patio. The owners of the restaurant, Phil and Ruth Marsteller, live near the Scenic Drive. Phil commented that he and Ruth just wanted to thank volunteers for their effort over the years. They thanked us with a delicious breakfast and a chance to catch-up with  other volunteers.  A good time was had by all!located

For added excitement, GPPA-Friends of the Scenic Drive held complimentary drawings for Arizona lottery tickets and AMC Entertainment Gift Cards.

Special thanks to Gina Kulp and Bill Scott for managing the two sign-in locations and Peter Cherry and Cindy Lee for taking photographs of the event.

The next cleanup will be held after the holidays. The date and information will be published in The Peak. The good news is that Carvalho’s has invited our volunteers to enjoy breakfast after that event. GPPA will also be conducting free drawings.

Carvalho’s Brazilian Kitchen is located 23623 N. Scottsdale Road in the shopping center (Safeway) on the northeast corner of N. Scottsdale Road and
E. Pinnacle Peak Road (next to Ace Hardware). For information, call 480-563-1562 visit Carvalhos.co/
