GPPA Donates Food from Rescheduled Cookout
On March 1, 2014, everybody was disappointed by the Cookout’s rescheduling, especially families from out-of-town, who were looking forward to something western and special during their vacation visits. But it helps to know that something good resulted from a rare bad weather day.
Because of the rescheduling of THE Great Western Cookout Adventure from March 1st to April 26th, the large quantities of salad, vegetables, and mac & cheese that GPPA had purchased were going to be thrown away. That is until GPPA member Linda Cappel suggested donating the food to the Desert Foothills Food Bank.
With the cooperation of the caterer, MacDonald’s Ranch, and the food bank, GPPA made the donation. Bob Cappel, GPPA’s President, picked up the food in Phoenix and delivered it to the food bank’s center in Cave Creek, resulting in the equivalent of a $500 donation to help fight hunger.
The Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center provides emergency food, financial assistance and other life necessities and resources to individuals and families in the desert foothills, which encompasses a 180-square mile area that includes Black Canyon City, Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, Desert Hills, New River, north Scottsdale and north Phoenix.
