1995 Photos of Restored Plant Exhibits & Vicinity

Today, a saguaro bloom looks just like the saguaro blooms in 1995.

In 1995, Friends of  the Scenic Drive restored more than 60 plant exhibits along the Scenic Drive. Volunteer Bob Hart took photographs of many of the newly installed posts and signs.  Since then, plant exhibits have been moved, repaired, and enhanced as Scottsdale Road was widened, water pipes installed, utility lines were undergrounded, and planned neighborhoods and retail centers were built.  The Scenic Drive did its job and roadside vegetation and vistas were protected but much of the open desert, clearly seen in the background of these photos, has been lost to development.
