General Plan timeframe changes to include more public outreach

The public hearing process for the draft Scottsdale General Plan 2035 has been postponed to provide extended community outreach efforts. Additional open houses will be held this fall with specific dates to be determined. State law requires the city to update its General Plan every 10 years. The General Plan is the primary tool for guiding future development and the character of the city over the next 20 years. The public can review the draft plan and submit feedback at General Plan 2035. For more information, contact Project Coordination Liaison Sara Javoronok at 480-312-7918 or sjavoronok@ScottsdaleAZ.gov.

Scottsdale joins a nationwide effort to support military caregivers

Scottsdale is among the first “Hidden Heroes” cities, a nationwide effort to focus attention on the estimated 5.5 million Americans who provide daily care for military members and veterans who are injured, wounded and ill. At HiddenHeroes.org, a new website launched with the campaign, military caregivers can share questions and advice, find a directory of caregiver resources and take advantage of a national military caregiver registry to help connect caregivers with support. Hidden Heroes is an initiative of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, whose mission is to strengthen and empower American military caregivers and their families by raising public awareness, driving research, championing policy, and leading collaborations that make a significant impact on their lives.

Don’t wait – check the date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years

Did you know your smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years? To find out when it’s time to replace your smoke alarms, simply look on the back of the alarm where the “date of manufacture” is marked. Here are some additional smoke alarm recommendations and guidelines:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement.
  • Interconnect all smoke alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Test alarms monthly.
  • If the smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
