This is wonderful news. My hope is that the postage stamp
plots will be included in the Preserve eventually, even
if this necessitates sending the decision to the voters.

The State Land Department is amending its City of Scottsdale zoning request. The new request still must be formalized and move through Scottsdale’s approval process but it appears to have much more support than the state’s initial request. It is expected that GPPA’s board, which met with state and city officials last week, will vote to support the new request at its December meeting. Note that the request only impacts the zoning. It is still possible that Scottsdale could include the land as part of its preserve in the future. That is a separate question that will involve considerable future discussion by Scottsdale residents and leaders. This is good news. Thank you for your support! More detailed information will be published in the near future.

Dynamite, Happy Valley and Scottsdale Roads. The voters voted and approved legislation which
zoned this land rural neighborhood via the General Plan approved in 2002, nor in the 2006 revised
version of the General Plan. If any zoning changes not consistent with the General Plans
are to be made, they should be submitted to the voters for approval. Otherwise, it does not seem
lawful for the State Land Department or the City Council to arbitrarily rezone the land to
commercial/resort zoning.
