He lived there, we had so many parties there. I remember he was always raking the oil greens. We also rode horses, played golf ( where I did get a hole in one) I still have the score card where I beat my then boyfriend, now husband in 1968. We played pool and the piano. When my brother in law came home from Vietnam, we had a huge party, I was 13 then. I loved going there every weekend, we called it “The Desert” My Dad had a 1944 Willys jeep, I learned to drive in the desert!

The Scottsdale J.C.’s annual party held at the Iron Wood was a rip storting event. All members loved to cook their own selected steak on the Iron Wood Cooking Pit. The last one attended by Odys coincided with the special appearance of Miss Kitty of Gun Smoke fame. I believe the range manager of John Wayne’s north central Arizona cattle ranch was also there. There was a family very close by the course that had a restaurant on the east coast. I believe their name was Lou and Edie Mathis. Each year, they would ask patrons to donate clothing article for the indian children at the reservations the family supported. One year it took a semi trailer to carry the donations to Arizona.
