Photos: Kestrel Afternoon Delight

I recently found these Kestrels enjoying each other’s company on a sunny day. Kestrels are small falcons about the size of a large pigeon or quail. They are fast fliers and very accurate hunters. Their behavior on this afternoon brought to mind a song from the ‘70s titled “Afternoon Delight.” For those of you old enough to remember the Starland Vocal Band, here are a few lyrics from that popular song that seem to fit:

“Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight

Gonna grab some afternoon delight

My motto’s always been ‘when it’s right, it’s right’

Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?

When everything’s a little clearer in the light of day

And we know the night is always gonna be there any way”

And may all your afternoons be as filled with “skyrockets in flight” as it was for these little Kestrels! See photographs below…
