Howdie, pardner. It’s good to see you again. Pardner, the dang editor has ordered Desert Les to test your knowledge of adopt-a-road litter programs and Scottsdale’s Scenic Drive. Don’t worry none. 1992 road cleanup

On April 4, 1992 more than 100 persons volunteered to pick up litter on main roads in the Pinnacle Peak area, Pima Road, Pinnacle Peak Road, and Scottsdale Road. The event was sponsored jointly by the Citadel’s Director’s Circle and GPPHA. Don Schoenau headed GPPHA’s effort. Scottsdale’s Volunteer Maintenance Program furnished litter bags and safety vests. Author’s Note. Trash flying off the back of a pickup truck led Evans to initiate the effort that led to the creation of Tyler’s litter pickup program. Because of intense residential development,  it was not unusual in the early and mid-1990s to see litter flying off the back of contractor’s trucks driving along the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive.
