The name is pronounced CHOY-uh. It is also known as tree cholla and deerhorn cholla. It is a member of the Cactus Family.

  • Most specimens along the drive are 3-4′ in height but they can grow as high as 15′.
  • Blooms in May with organge, brown, yellow or red flowers.
  • Produces a small pear-shaped fruit which remains attached during the winter. The plants stems are covered with sharp spines that are gray to purplish in color.
